Wikipedia Will Start Texting Info To Users in Kenya Who Lack Internet

26 Oct

image

Wikipedia is probably a regular part of your online life. And if you own a smartphone, you can take advantage of apps and extensions that give you access to its vast repository even when you’re offline. But what if you don’t have a smartphone, or an easily accessible Internet connection?

In an attempt to increase the number of people who can use Wikipedia, the Wikimedia Foundation has announced the pilot for Wikipedia Zero, a technology that lets basic feature phone (or “dumbphone”) owners look up and consume Wikipedia content via text message. The Wikimedia Foundation says the three-month pilot, in partnership with the telecoms company Airtel and the South African mobile technologies nonprofit Praekelt Foundation, will open Wikipedia up to at least 70 million new users in sub-Saharan Africa, beginning in Kenya.

The SMS-based Wikipedia Zero is simple: When users dial *515# on their phone, they will receive a text prompting them to enter a search term as they would a normal text message. Wikipedia will then prompt users to choose the specific entry and sub-topic they’d like to read about before sending over about a paragraph from the appropriate entry. Users can press “1” to receive more from the entry.

Dan Foy, the Wikimedia Foundation’s technical partner manager, says:
“From the lessons we learn from this pilot, we hope to eventually make this service widely available to reach the billions of people who have mobile phones, but cannot afford access to the Internet.”

What are your thoughts on having this service available in Nigeria? Please share them below. pharmpedroblog.wordpress.com

The Curious Case Of Shinji Kagawa

24 Oct

image

For the first time this 2013/2014 football season, Shinji Kagawa played for a full 90 minutes against Real Sociedad in the Champions League. In my opinion he did brilliantly given this rare opportunity to play, but there were questions that kept coming up during the game and I began to ponder why Moyes hasn’t been able to start Kagawa more often.

Lets not be hasty here, i’m not taking sides with Moyes over this issue. In fact I am a huge admirer of Shinji Kagawa’s talents which he consistently displayed in the game. Also United have played sweeter with Kagawa on the pitch than without this season. In an offensive sense, Kagawa who on paper was placed on the left kept drifting into midfield quite often to create chances for his team. His movement was astonishing as always but i’m sure if he looks back and watches the match instead he’ll see some decisions he made in the final third of the field that could not have earned him a MOTM award. Final decisions like passing instead of going for goal when his positioning favored the latter; like choosing to pass out wide to the ever overlapping fullback, whose decoys worked to perfection and creating space, when in truth a more confident forward would have taken better advantage of such space and cut in even deeper; and his decision to take an unnecessary touch of the ball when he had a golden chance to score on a plate.
Its the little things like this that makes United opponents get off the hook and worse still, get away with something as seen many times this season. Thus the faith in the boy-wonder called Adnan Januzaj. The kid surely knows how to take his chances and does so without contemplation. Kagawa took his time to gain some confidence  last night, and who could blame him, he’s been somewhat unfairly benched and that does alot of damage to even the greatest of players’ morale.

Defensively, I dont feel kagawa did enough for one who plies his trade in the Premiership. Don’t get me wrong, he did track back when possession was lost, but not as often as he normally should as exemplified by Antonio Valencia, regardless of kagawa being a natural winger or not. Kagawa’s drifts into the middle of the pitch resulted in Evra practically playing two positions along the left side of midfield which United should be thankful for that Real Sociedad didn’t duly take advantage of.
Rather than make tackles or pressure opposing players and forcing errors, kagawa seemed to be fine with just recieving the ball and moving it out of united’s half as his only defensive contributions. I can’t believe I’m saying this but Nani, in as much as he plays more like an inside forward than an out-and-out winger, his defensive work ethic is way better than Kagawa’s.

So from all my previous talked about observations, the main question from the game was begotten – Why not play Kagawa in midfield instead? In as much as the prospect of a centrally playing Kagawa seems to be mouth watering, the answer to this question, though far from confusing as the responses of the Architect in the Matrix Reloaded to Neo’s questions, it seems to be that it might just be tactically safer to play Kagawa on the wings than in the middle.
How? We all agree that Michael Carrick is United’s best midfielder and must prominently start every game United want to win, but ball-winning has never been the best attribute in Carrick’s repertoire. For this reason Moyes has sought to create a balance in his midfield by either playing Cleverly alongside who’s more like a rugged run – off the mill central midfielder with better ball-winning attributes than Carrick; or he opts to play Giggs who with his wealth of experience has almost the composure of Paul Scholes in midfield, thus the risk of carelessly losing possesion is much reduced. Fellaini on the other hand has been like an experiement gone wrong. For all the bark he has with his physique and surprisingly good technical ability he hasn’t really given any bite to United’s midfield nor attack. Kagawa’s limiting factor into the 1st team has got to be his playing style. He plays similar to Nasri or Iniesta – attempting darting forward runs through the middle, quick passing, risky off the ball movement roaming out of position in the hunt for creating or scoring a goal. Players like these need midfield partners with better ball-winning attributes than Carrick or else there will be an glaring imbalance, like a double-edged sword capable of causing damage to its user as it can to the enemy. This is hypothesis imcan be backed up by the transfer bids for Fabregas, Thiago, and Herrerra during the summer with all three players having ball-winning attributes.

So what’s the potential solution? Selling Kagawa is out of the question to me. He is  arguably United’s most creative midfielder. Maybe if football was a game of 12 player per team then Kagawa will be like the final piece in David Moyes’ jigsaw puzzle. Last season many failed to notice that Kagawa got more playing time often at the expense of Wayne Rooney. Now rooney has found form once again there almost seems to be no place for Kagawa as that Trequartista role has officially become Rooney’s. Thus Shinji is left with the option of following Juan Mata’s footsteps and working on his defensive side of play or keep praying that David Moyes tinkers on his formation and changes it to a 4-3-3 where there’ll be room to accommodate kagawa.

This is just my opinion on the matter and I’m very sure many will have very contrasting ones from mine but however, I encourage you share your thoughts below. pharmpedroblog.wordpress.com

The Anime Exchange Group – Not Just A Group

22 Oct

image

Are you a lover of japanese animations like Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Kenichi, Hajime no Ippo, Code Geas, GUNDAM etc.? A consistent reader of the mangas? Or even have any interest in Comics, Animations, Movies, Games and other leisure material in digital format? If you are but yet not member of the ever increasing Anime Exchange Group then i strongly suggest you become one unless you suffer serious agoraphobia.
In case you are attempting to make hasty derogatory assumptions, the Anime Exchange group consists of brilliant individuals, entrepreneurs, lawyers, health care professionals, IT specialists, Architects and people from other noble professions who all just share the hobby of indulging into watching anime. So don’t worry, they are eons far from jobless.

The most interesting event organised by this group is the Swap meetings, scheduled at least twice a year, where members converge at a predetermined venue, carrying along with them their laptops and (most importantly) Hard Drives loaded with all sorts of interesting stuff. At these meetings, you can literally, like 100% literally drop your laptop at table A, walk around until you find a laptop that has what you’re either looking for or has something of interest at table X, of which its owner could be busy enjoying him/herself at table F, and you can still come back to your laptop without the slightest concern about its status or whereabouts. Or if you’re having trust issues, you can simply just yell out who has this or that and just relocate with your gizmos. But its more fun when you are less selfish.

image

The very first Anime Exchange swap meet in Barcelos at the Silverbird galleria. 2008.

These swap meets aren’t only about transferring digital data though, there’s always refreshments to replenish brain cells after displaying to your mind hundreds of terabytes worth of Anime and other interesting things.
Members also engage in debates, which I may add, are never scheduled but always mysteriously sparked up, over comic or anime related contents. Debates epic hypothetical battles like Kratos (God of War) versus The Hulk; Spiderman versus Batman; 9 Tails Demon Fox versus The Hulk etc. Debates like these are undoubtedly just plain fun to be part of.
Also, video game consoles are ever present and you can choose to test your skills against other gamers if you feel you got what it takes, or just watch to avoid embarrassing your family name.

image

It is worthy of note that this event is not only for guys. Girls love anime too and they make up quite an interesting percentage of every turnout. So if you just happen to be looking for that girl who shares common interests with you as an anime enthusiast, the Anime Exchange Group is something you would love to be a part of.

image

How do you join? For starters membership is absolutely free. A good suggestion would be to go to The Anime Exchange facebook page http://www.facebook.com/theanimeexchange and request to join. Once Admin accepts your request, all you simply have to do is socialize and ask questions on the group wall.
Multiple Blackberry Messenger groups of The Anime Exchange have been created so you can request to join through facebook. And if you are not in lagos or abuja, you could use this means to reachout to people who reside in your region and would love to join. You can create a new daughter chapter of The Anime Exchange Group and watch the opportunities grow. It all started with a group of friends who invited their friends and they all became friends.

The Science Behind Why We Binge (And What To Do About It)

19 Oct

image

A binge is a period of excessive indulgence in an activity like eating or drinking.
At some point, we’ve all awoken from some kind of binge, perhaps surrounded by beer bottles, candy wrappers or shopping bags, and asked ourselves: What the hell happened? How can rational, functioning adults totally lose control of their impulses?

What’s the deal?:
As it turns out, whether it’s drinking, eating or shopping, different binge behaviors actually have similar causes. Clinical psychologist Dr. Michael Mantell explains that all types of bingeing are “ways of dealing with negative emotions that are not rational or healthy.” But when does the occasional overindulgence become a real problem? According to Mantell, fully-fledged binge disorders are characterized by feelings of powerlessness, secrecy, shame and social isolation. Once someone feels a need to binge in private, or schedule binges around (or instead of) work and social obligations, it’s time to ask why.

Binge eating is currently the most common eating disorder in adults, compulsive buying disorder (a.k.a. “shopaholism”) is increasing, and binge drinking is widespread, especially among women. Whether it’s pizza, booze or clearance sales, the causes of any type of binge behavior can fall into three categories: psychological, chemical and sociocultural.

Psychological: The most common causes of bingeing are anxiety, stress and depression – a lot of the time, it’s simply a way to numb unhappy feelings. But bingeing can also be a symptom of an undiagnosed mental disorder. Depression, for example, can lead to low self esteem, body dissatisfaction, poor impulse control and difficulty managing feelings – all of which can trigger a binge. Naturally, the pain and guilt that comes in the aftermath of a binge can trigger depression, which can also trigger another binge… not exactly a fun cycle to get caught in.

image

Chemical: Of course, people also overindulge because it can feel great – before regret sets in, anyway. The brain releases the “feel-awesome” chemical dopamine when we eat fat and sugar, when we drink alcohol, or even when we see new things to buy. Once the brain secretes dopamine during binges, they can become like a physical addiction – we binge more and more because we crave the rush of chemicals. Similarly, low levels of dopamine and serotonin (another happy chemical) can lead to compulsive behavior (like bingeing) and depression.
Stress and anxiety can also make people binge by making them more prone to “reward seeking behavior” – basically, stress can make us lose perspective and prioritize the nice feelings (“reward”) we get during a binge over the regret that inevitably comes later.

Sociocultural: Without a strong sense of self-confidence, the pressures of a culture that emphasizes coolness through consumption can also drive people to binges.
“We’re always being told that you’re not worth anything if you’re not thin, if you don’t drink, if you don’t own certain things,” says Dr Mantell. “That pressure to be perfect can definitely lead to anxiety and binge-like behavior.”

Mind Over Matter: Many experts link bingeing to a lack of mindfulness, especially relating to emotions. People who are prone to compulsive behavior tend, in general, to have more difficulty understanding their feelings and handling stress. There are many ways to help remedy the issue, such as mindfulness meditation and writing down emotions throughout the day. When a binge feels imminent, Dr Mantell suggests the THINK model: ask whether these feelings are True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary or Kind. For example, an impulse like, “I must buy that now,” doesn’t exactly fit the THINK bill. Being aware of one’s emotional states can help reduce stress, anxiety and consequent bingeing, so working on improving mindfulness is never a bad idea.

What Can I Do?: No matter why (or how) someone binges, there are plenty of treatment options available for those who seek help. Mantell recommends first visiting a cognitive behavioral therapist to figure out if the binges are a standalone problem or if they’re caused by more serious mental issues, like depression or a mood disorder.
After talking with a mental health professional, the recommended next step is to work on controlling binges through continued therapy. Finding a support group like Alcoholics Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous or Debtors Anonymous can also be useful in many cases.

Remember, self-treatment is only okay for less serious cases of binge behavior. If bingeing is continuously, negatively impacting your life – to the point where it causes distress or financial, social or physical harm – therapy should be the first step.

I hope someone out there finds this article as helpful as I do. Many people do not even know they binge. I’m not trying to say it has become a problem but awareness can help one to reducing dependence on bingeing, especially in Nigeria where issues are like the Hydra – cut off one head and two more sprout.

Timbaland’s wife files for divorce to end five-year marriage.

17 Oct

image

Timothy Mosley (A.K.A Timbalabd) is set to become another victim of the nasty but highly profitable business for women known as Divorce. Timbaland’s wife, Monique Mosley has filed for divorce to end their five-year marriage and has asked for alimony and child support.
The 41-year-old musician and Monique have a five-year-old daughter Reign together but here’s the catch – Monique has asked for child support for not only Reign but also for her 10-year-old son from a previous relationship. In other words she is demanding child support for a child Timbaland did not even father. I hope I am not the only one who sees such demand as outrageous, insane and also hilarious at the same time.

Well, it gets worse. Monique said in court documents that the rapper has “publicy and privately proclaimed this child as his own,” according to an article on Wednesday in TMZ (Not that he legally adopted her son as his own).
Monique also has asked for alimony, life insurance, private school, vacations, summer camp and OTHER EXPENSES.
The former publicist also wants Timbaland, whose given name is Timothy Zachery Mosley, to pay for her legal fees. She also is seeking “rehabilitative alimony” and permanent alimony in addition to funds while divorce proceedings continue. (As if gold-digging couldnt break new grounds)
Monique said in court documents that she had to borrow money from a friend to pay for her lawyer.

image

Timbaland has been one of the biggest influences in the music industry since the mid-1990s and has worked with many of the music industry’s biggest stars, including Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado, Jay-Z, Bjork, 50-Cent, Ginuwine and the late Aaliyah.
Thus, Timbaland has accumulated a net worth estimated at $80million, according to the website Celebrity Networth, and Monique wants to take half of that and more after just 5 years?..

In all honesty I cant help but feel bad for Timbaland. But in my opinion he should take some blame for getting married without signing a prenuptial agreement especially to a woman who already has a child from a previous marriage.
Timbaland cannot tell me he didn’t listen when Kanye West said “If you ain’t no punk, holler We Want Prenup… Its something that you need to have, cuz when she leave yo’ ass, she goin’ leave with half.” That was from his song titled Gold-digger.
And Monique was not in any way with Timbaland when he was shooting in the gym (in this context, Timbaland’s gym is his studio).

Divorce is and has never been pretty regardless of whether huge sums of money is involved or not. I hope this serves as a lesson to men who become successful and are have a propensity of getting blinded by love especially to sumone who wasn’t there from the humble beginings.

New Assassin’s Creed clothing line goes beyond the T-shirt

17 Oct

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is due to launch in just a few short weeks, and Ubisoft has partnered with German label Musterbrand — a label known for its video-game-themed clothing — to launch an official tie-in clothing line. It’s a far cry from what we would usually expect of video-game-branded clothing. Usually, there’s a range of T-shirts with a bunch of logos splashed all over them, a hoodie or two and maybe some accessories — not bad stuff, but a little on the juvenile side.

Musterbrand’s take on Assassin’s Creed blows them out of the water. Collaborating closely with the game’s creators, the brand has created a range of clothing that is absolutely stylish while remaining true to the game. Particular favourites include the naval-style hoodie, the black scarfand the amazingly handsome slim-line Achilles jacket. And of course, Ubisoft approves.

Prices range between €42 (N9,170.00) and €185 (N40,000)and can be pre-ordered today for shipment on 18 November. You can find the full collection on the Musterbrand website. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will be available as a launch title for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 21 November (the consoles will be released on 29 November and 22 November, respectively), as well as the Wii U and PC, and it will be released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 29.

I can imagine walking on the streets of lagos in this modern day dressed like Ezio Altidore or his fellow assassins. That will be sorta cool especially when attending an event like the Anime Exchange Swap meet. I’m sure it would be much more appreciated if these outfits do come with the complete package of the trademark hidden blade. This way I walk around places like Ajegunle and be singing “nobody test me”.

8 Dutch Prisons To Be Shut Down Due To Lack of Crime.

16 Oct

image

The Netherlands are to close down about 8 prisons across their country due to lack (or rather very low level) of crime in the country. Upon hearing this I couldnt help but wonder how possible could it be that a whole nation could boast of such an amazing achievement.

Firstly, I think such a feat is worthy of enormous praise that should be graciously directed to the Dutch government. However, I did some little research and found out some very interesting facts that has helped create this dutch “Semi-utopia”.

1: 51.3% of dutch people are Irreligious. A term many hypocritical “holier-than-thou” nigerians would love to hastily refer to as pagans. 24.6% are Roman Catholics; 14.8% are Protestants; 5.5% are Islamic; And 3.8% worship under various other religious groups. I do not intend to implant any ideas that there is no God or aethism is the way forward, in fact I have a very big God and he is always by my side, but these statistics force eyebrows to be raised especially when you try to make comparisons with the very religious Nigeria with as many churches as ethnic groups.
I was once told by a very senior colleague that if someone wants to hold Nigeria to randsome or overthrow the government, the most effective and efficient tool he can ever have will be religion. If he can unite all the christians and the muslims and feed them with an appropriate incentive, then the Nigerian government will fall like a stack of Dominoes. Though this may sound very improbable, but one has to see wisdom in such words. Besides, knowing how volatile and religiously fanatical many nigerians are, how improbable is such a proposition?

2: 99% of Dutch men and 99% Dutch women are Literate. And about 42% possess university degrees. When I say literate I mean read and write. If that is not astonishing then I dont know what is. This just shows what can be achieved when a government simply does not misplace its priorites? Any country that places a Class S prioritization on education can only attain greatness. In nigeria the percentage budget allocation for education is?…
But in Nigeria it not just the government that is failing to improve our educational system, it the people. We still have cultures, or even groups of individuals who see education as such a taboo that they even shed the blood of innocent people just to oppose it. And worse off, we even have shameless pedophiles taking advantage of  Nigeria’s Illiteracy rate and marrying female children – children that should be in school. I don’t know how many people will read this article but I hope the message gets across to the right people that we as a people are solely responsible for our country and its future. No outsider, no aliens, no religious diety can be held responsible for how our country ends up. It’s up to us and us alone.

3: Have you heard of the Dutch Drug Policy? Im sure many of you have but didn’t realuze there was actually a policy. We have seen in many movies, heard in many discussions, that the Netherlands is like the “weed capital” of the world. Well I personally don’t know the extent to which that statement is true but I can categorically tell you that the Netherlands have a very tolerant drug policy where if you want coffee you go to the nearest café, but if you want to smoke cannabis you go to the nearest coffee shop.

image

image

Amazing huh? One might ask how this helps to reduce delinquency in the society, well the stats speak for themselves. For example the number of drug related deaths in the Netherlands is 2.4 persons per million inhabitants – the lowest by far in Europe.
These so  called coffee shops are strictly monitored by the government and doses of not more than 5grams of “soft drugs” are dispensed to persons (above 18 of course) per day. This has helped diminish public nuisance by drug users; combat production and trafficking of recreational drugs; and reduce harm to users. This policy is all means a brave one, but like the saying goes, fortune only favors the brave. There are still on-going heated debates against the dutch drug policy in the EU but as far as the Dutch are concerned, the shutting down of 8 Prisons across the country due to lack of crime is a testament to the success of their government.
I wouldn’t dare recommend our Federal Government to even try to “control+C” and “Control+V” the dutch drug policy for even a day, but one has to learn that more often than not, the boldest steps always lead to most fruitful outcomes.

So will our Nigeria one day announce that we have shut down 8 prisons across the country due to lack of crime? For our childrens’ sake one can only pray for such.

One last interesting thing to note: though The Netherlands as a whole country is many times casually referred to as Holland, one should know that Netherlands is not the same as Holland. Holland is in fact a part of the Netherlands. North and South Holland are just 2 provinces in the Netherlands.

No Blurred Lines, Pharrell Williams Finally Ties The Knot

14 Oct

image

Forever young, baby-faced veteran song writer, rapper, record producer, and fashion designer, Pharrell Willams (popularly known simply as Pharrell) finally marries long time girlfriend and baby mama Helen Lasichanh on 12th October, 2013. The Lovely couple appeared to have left Miami on a boat named “Never Say Never” and later at night exchanged marital vows at Kampong National Tropical Botanical Gardens in Coconut Grove.

Pharrell, 40, has, on numerous accounts, made no secret of his adoration of Helen long before the wedding. He once described on TV his relationship with Helen as “awesome”. “The bestie thing is awesome. Every night is like a sleepover” he said quite enthusiastically.

While Pharrell barely needs any introduction, how much do we know about his bride Helen?
• For starters, Helen Lasichanh, 33, is a famous model and designer who also goes by an alias Helen Delgado.
• Helen has been dating Pharrell for 3 years but got engaged in july 2013.
• Helen has only one child and his father is none other than Pharrell Williams. He was born in November 2008. And His name is Rocket Man Williams (Definitely not a name you’ll hear at a yoruba naming ceremony, nor hausa… maybe a calabar one though).
• Helen has been Pharrell’s bestie for most of their courtship.
• Helen did not wear white on her wedding. Rather, she wore a dark blue gown and still looked angelic nonetheless.

image

Helen Lasinchanh (in blue dress wearin a Tiara)sitting adjacent to Pharrell

• Helen took a tumble after the 2013 Met Gala in NY, and unfortunately, the top of her gorgeous pant suit slipped and revealed much more than she wanted. However, Pharrell and their body guard gracefully helped her up — and covered her up — as quickly as possible!

As the saying goes “he who has found a wife has found a good thing” and being a gigantic fan of Pharrell’s work down for decades, I hope his new husbandly duties wont tamper with the quality of his productions. However, I still wish him and his family the best.

BENDY SMARTPHONES? Next-Gen Bendy Electronics Will be Mindblowing

13 Oct

Samsung is getting all excited about its upcoming curved smartphone, but while Samsung is one of the very biggest names in phone tech right now, it’s not the only one thinking about making a phone that’s not a big, flat slate. LG is making one, too.In fact, LG is pushing very hard, and is sharing details on the tech inside the phone even before we really know what the phone looks like.
This tells us something. It tells us the curved smartphone isn’t the next phone paradigm, but the secrets inside it are.

image

Both LG and Samsung are touting the clever technology behind the OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) screens that will make their curved phones possible. If you have never heard of this OLED tech im quite sure you’ll be very impressed with its concept. Basically  an OLED is a LED but having its emissive electroluminescent layer being a film of organic compound instead which emits light in response to an electric current. This layer of organic semiconductoris situated between two electrodes.

image

The trick to the OLED smartphone is that instead of being machined on a solid backplate, like many LCD displays, the new OLED screen is mounted on plastic. This makes it bendable, and therefore much harder to damage. The tech has been bubbling under the radar for a while, but LG and Samsung have clearly pushed it to the point where it’s ready to be manufactured at consumer-grade levels. In the curved phones, the OLED plastic display will simply be bent to conform to the curve of the external glass-based screen.

Separately, LG has shown the world its rather amazing Cable Battery, which is a radical reinvention of the typical slab-like rechargeable battery that sits inside everyone’s smartphone, tablet, remote control car, and more.

image

The Cable Battery, as its name suggests, is shaped like a rope and can be bent, tied, contorted, and twisted into some surprising shapes with little impact on its voltage output. Furthermore, it’s designed to be used in low-voltage devices so it doesn’t heat up, and it’s also waterproof. The company has worked on the technology to the point where it’s ready for mass production. It is probably crucial to making a curved smartphone with a pronounced bend – something that would be a problem for a traditional slab lithium battery.

Both the smartphones that LG and Samsung will release soon are not going to be “bendy,” (yet…) it’s worth remembering that they’ll have traditional components other than the OLED screen and, at least on LG’s part, a bendy battery, and they’ll have a permanent curve. I dont feel the world is ready for a fully bendable phone, and I sort of question the utility of a curved smartphone screen in the first place because of the way it will change how gestures “feel” to the user when they use it in portrait or landscape mode. Neither phone is likely to reinvent the current smartphone paradigm.

But that’s okay. Because all these phones really are showcases for the new technology that makes them work. And this tech is going to change electronics as you know it.Think about it: an unbreakable, bendable, low-power screen that’s pretty cheap to make and a bendy, waterproof, rechargeable battery. How about small wraparound video screens at eye level? Car instrument panels that are more than mere plastic-shaded covers on your dashboard, that instead bend and flex over the contours to make for better readability? Next-generation Google Glass displays that are mere wisps of curved plastic in the air? Large, portable screens that you just roll up when you need to go mobile? Batteries that fit in the arms of Glass-like headsets? Power cells for your tablet or laptop that fit as much battery as possible into every nook and cranny inside the case? Wearable devices with a battery concealed in a necklace?
Basically, what LG and Samsung are doing is setting themselves up as core suppliers for other manufacturers (Like Apple… Yeah I said it) who will use their screen and battery tech in new devices – the best of which probably hasn’t been dreamed up yet.

Curved smartphones? Its worth waiting for in my opinion.
